Lamisil which is also known as Terbinafine is an inhibitor of the growth of fungi. Lamisil helps with the treatment of infections that are caused by fungus. These infections have drastic effects on fingernails or toenails.
Lamisil as an antifungal medicine contains the following ingredients:
- Colloidal silicon dioxide NF;
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose USP;
- Magnesium stearate NF;
- Microcrystalline cellulose NF;
- Sodium starch glycolate NF.
You are advised to seek immediate help from your doctor immediately you begin to experience some unusual signs of liver damage such as vomiting, loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea, upper stomach pain, dark urine, jaundice, and clay-colored stools. These may eventually lead to liver transplant or death.
Terbinafine works effectively for the treatment of some specific kinds of infections caused by fungus. Lamisil incredibly hinders fungus from growing to effective stages.
Mode of Indication, Dosage, and Duration of Treatment
You should ensure that you adhere to all directions given by your doctor or those on the prescription label. You are expected not to take Lamisil medication more, less or longer than it’s required. You may take the Lamisil tablet with or without a meal. Ensure you swallow the tablet and don’t chew. You may even decide to sprinkle Lamisil granules into a spoonful of mashed potatoes or pudding (avoid the inclusion of fruit juice, applesauce or other foods that are acidic into the mixture). You may take Lamisil for 6 weeks when under the treatment of fingernail or scalp infections; however, it may be 12 weeks for the treatment of toenail infection. Ensure you avoid sudden withdrawal from the use of this medication. Use this medication appropriately within the length of time given. Your doctor may need to do blood tests for you frequently when you are on this drug. Total recovery may take several months.
The following precautionary measures must be taken before or when using Lamisil:
- Patients who are allergic to Lamisil or those that are diagnosed for liver problems should keep away from its use.
- Ensure you notify your doctor if have a history of any of the following illnesses:
- Liver problems;
- Kidney problems;
- Weak immune system;
- Pregnant women or those that may become pregnant should seek medical advice from their doctors before the use of Lamisil
- Lactating mothers are advised to keep away from the use of Terbinafine mainly because of a nursing baby.
Ensure you seek immediate medical help if you begin to experience any symptoms of allergic reactions to Lamisil. These signs may be a severe skin reaction; inflammation of your face or throat; hives; or difficulty in breathing. The following are some of the side effects of Lamisil:
- Stomach pain or upset;
- Abnormal liver function tests.
In a situation whereby you forget to use your prescribed medicine, you can always take it at the moment of recollection. However, mind the time for the next dose if not close. Taking two doses at one time should be avoided.
Peradventure you take more than the prescribed doses, quickly see your doctor or call for emergency medical help. Taking more than the prescribed drugs may result in:
- Stomach pain;
- Increased urination.
Lamisil is a drug that is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to oral Terbinafine.
Interaction with other drugs
You are advised to notify your doctor before using any new medication with Lamisil. Tell your doctor about the medications you were using and those you are using. Some drugs may result in obnoxious effects for patients. The following medications may interact with Lamisil:
