Flomax which is also known as Tamsulosin which falls under the class of alpha-blocker drugs assists with the relaxation of prostate and bladder neck muscles. This enhances easy urination in men with BPH (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia). Women and children are restricted from the use of Tamsulosin.
Tamsulosin works effectively for the treatment of the signs of an enlarged prostate. Prostate and bladder muscles are relaxed via the use of Flomax. The signs of BPH such as week stream, the need for frequent or urgent urination and difficulty in beginning the flow of urine. Flomax should not be used on high blood pressure patients.
Mode of Indication, Dosage, and Duration of Treatment
You are advised to strictly adhere to all given instructions by your doctor or those found on the prescription label. Your drug administration may be changed at times by your doctor for a better medical condition. You are expected not to take this medication more, less or longer than it is required. Take Flomax once per day which may be a half of an hour before food. Follow a constant schedule for dose use. Swallow Flomax tablets and don’t chew or crush. If you begin to experience any effect relating to dizziness or fainting, ensure you quickly notify your doctor. This is for Patients who are battling with very long time illnesses which lead to diarrhea or vomiting. These may decrease your blood pressure. Consequently, you are expected to do frequent blood pressure check-up. Tamsulosin is expected to be taken once in a day with an initial dose of 0.4mg and maximum dose of 0.8mg. These should be done orally.
Ensure you adhere to the following precautionary measures before using Tamsulosin:
- Patients who are allergic to Flomax should desist from its use.
- Avoid the intake of Flomax with related drugs such as doxazosin, prazosin, silodosin or terazosin.
- Ensure you notify your doctor if you have the following illnesses:
- Prostate cancer history;
- Liver disease;
- Kidney disease;
- Abnormal blood pressure;
- An allergy to sulfa drugs.
- Your pupils may be affected during cataract medical operation. Therefore, ensure you notify your eye surgeon before the intake of Flomax.
- Pregnant women and lactating mothers should notify their doctors before the use of this medication.
- Flomax is restricted from the use of anyone under the age of 18 years old.
Ensure you notified the doctor if you begin to experience any symptoms of any allergic reaction to Flomax. These may be the inflammation of the face, throat, tongue or lips; hives; rash; difficulty in breathing or itching. You are advised to discontinue the use of Flomax immediately you begin to have: A light-headed feeling, Painful or long time penis erection and severe skin reaction. The following are some of the common side effects of Flomax:
- Chest pain;
- Abnormal ejaculation;
- Back pain;
- Blurred vision;
- Tooth problems;
- Flu symptoms;
- Common cold symptoms;
- Decreased interest in sex.
In a situation whereby you forget to use your prescribed medicine, you can always take it at the moment of recollection. However, mind the time for the next dose if not close. Taking two doses at one time should be avoided.
Peradventure you take more than the prescribed doses, quickly see your doctor or call for emergency medical help.
Interaction with other drugs
Ensure you notify your doctor on every use and used drugs when on medication. The following medicines may lead to dangerous effects if used with Tamsulosin:
- Blood pressure drugs;
- Prescription and over-the-counter medicines;
- Herbal products.
